Melissa discovered yoga in 1994 while a student at Virginia Wesleyan College, where she later went back to teach classes! Suffice it to say she was hooked, and after graduating in 1996, went on to complete teacher’s training and began teaching all over the Hampton Roads area. By 1998 she was exhausted from all the running around and took a leap to open Virginia Beach’s first dedicated yoga studio. Her studio and teaching were regularly featured in the local papers and news programs, as she developed such innovative programming as Yoga for Athletes, Prenatal, Kids, Mommy and Me and Chakra Flow yoga. The area’s first ever hot class even started at her studio! But life happens and after many successful years, she decided to close and focus on her family. Fast forward, with her kids grown and successful, she made another leap and moved to Richmond in 2020 (just in time for the COVID shut down no less) on her own just to prove to herself she could do it and hasn’t looked back. Melissa is an E-RYT500, RPYT (prenatal). and a continuing educator provider through Yoga Alliance. She holds certifications from Oceanfront Yoga, Rolf Gates advanced Teacher’s Training, Kripalu Yoga – Chakra Yoga, Trauma Sensitive Yoga with Bessel van der Kolk, Yin Yoga with Sarah Powers, attended the Off the Mat into the World Leadership training with Seane Corn and countless other yoga workshops for over 25 years. She has traveled the country exploring other studios and styles of yoga and is excited to bring her passion and flair to Saadia's Juice Box and Yoga Bar and the Richmond yoga scene. Melissa believes that yoga has a transformative power that can elevate the quality of everyone’s life and can’t wait to share her infectious joy with you!
